President’s Report - August 2025

Warm winter greetings everyone. I hope you are getting your cars out and driving – after all they come from the UK so they should be well accustomed to a Victorian Winter and to reinforce our driving enjoyment we have some really interesting events coming up.

Please make sure you are booked into:

  • Our regional Meeting at Maldon happens on Saturday 9th of August. A fabulous show is planned, featuring the Maldon Machinery Museum as well as the Historic Maldon to Castlemaine Railway – if you think restoring and keeping a car on the road is hard, try a restoring a steam train and its carriages – and the team are all volunteers. Enjoy a great weekend and support some regional institutions as well – look forward to seeing you all there.

  • This year marks the 60th anniversary of one of the most prolific Rolls- Royce motor cars – the Silver Shadow. Join us to celebrate this anniversary in style with a High Tea at Marybrook Manor – well fitting of such a significant model. On a technical front we have some great opportunities coming up too:

  • On Saturday August 2nd we get to learn all about Leather with a special guest from Waproo – this session starts with a breakfast run from Caldermeade Farm. So what more can you ask for – Breaky, a drive and a show. Doesn’t get much better than that now does it. Actually, it does as there is a Ferguson Plarre Pie on offer for lunch too.

  • On Saturday September 6th Club legend John Reis has organised a special visit to Derby Works. Simon Elliot is opening his workshop for the club and I'm sure there will be some absolute treats within. Members planning to attend must remember that this is an operating workshop and they need to be conscience of all Health and Safety requirements illustrated and please no pets for this visit.

Also, in September we have our Drive and be Driven Day, this time we are featuring Pre War Cars and we are returning the amazing hospitality we experienced at the Austin 7 club and inviting them to join us with the cars too. There is also a run to Pearcedale into a place that can only be described as little Pebble Beach run by the remarkable Geoff Shepherd.

This year’s AGM will be something very special hosted at Rolls-Royce Melbourne Showroom in Richmond. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our club and our major sponsor in their fabulous showroom and workshop. In mentioning the AGM, if you like reading this Newsletter please step up as we do not have an editor for next year. No Editor means No Magazine. We also still looking for a secretary, No Secretary No Club. So please consider stepping up.

Cath and I are travelling from August 20th to September 30th so be prepared for some more Motor Museum pics when we return – The club will be in the safe and capable hands of your committee led by Stephen Peoples in my absence – please afford them your support.

Drive Safe and stay well,

Keith Mortimer
