President’s report - June 2022
It’s June already and the first half of the year seems to have just flown by. I don’t think that I am the only one who feels that time seems to be speeding up. The month of May saw three stand out events for our club: firstly the very well attended and highly lauded technical section focussing on pre-war cars, then we had a most interesting talk at our general meeting by Malcom Corban from BP who described how fuel specifications have changed significantly over the years and then on Sunday 22nd a very attractive run to Bravegoose Vineyard. Looking ahead the month of June promises some great events including the long anticipated Moorabbin Airport visit encompassing the Australian Aviation Museum, lunch at the Aero Club and Scenic Fights over Melbourne. For our June monthly meeting there has been a late change to the agenda and as the meeting coincides with the Queen’s Birthday holiday, we have a royal theme for the evening. We will examine the history of the former Vice-Regal Phantom limousines under the custodianship of the Sir Henry Royce Foundation and the Display Car will be 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, LRH24643 with division, former Vice-Regal motor car of the Governor of Victoria. Notices will be going out soon informing of a Special General Meeting scheduled prior to the July General meeting at which a proposal will be put to the membership regarding oversight and formal review of club books and finances. Look out for this notice and if there are any questions please reach out to me, our treasurer or any of the committee. With the end of the financial year in sight it is time to renew your memberships. Membership renewal forms will be sent out accompanying the June newsletter. There will be a small increase in subscriptions for 2022-2023.After four years of no increases, we have taken the decision to raise subscriptions by approximately 5% ($10 for most subscriptions) in line with the current increase in CPI in order to cover our rising fixed costs such as rates, electricity, insurance, body corporate fees etc. This is prudent and will secure the club and its ongoing healthy financial position. Re-development of the club website is almost complete with upgrades to the look and feel and a new membership only area will be launched soon. Watch out for a notice coming soon detailing your own secure access to this membership only area. That’s all for now. Happy motoring!
