President’s Report - July 2022
I do love all those wonderful stories about Rolls- Royce. Did you know the reason that so many Rolls- Royce doctor’s coupes were popular in the early days is that a Rolls-Royce was considered to be the only car that a doctor could arrive at and depart from a patient’s house without the possibility of disturbing the patient! It would be great to share some similar stories in the newsletter. If you have a story or fanciful myth about our wonderful marque cars, please send it along to Wayne Spittle our newsletter editor (editor@rrocavictoria.org.au) and we will include these in a special section in an upcoming newsletter.
Club events for the month of June included our general meeting which was dedicated to the Regal and Vice-Regal cars in the Sir Henry Royce Foundation collection. Special thanks go to Russell Rolls and Eric Henderson for their detailed presentations and to Glenn Clarke for bringing ‘GOV’ as our display car for the evening. At long last we were able to hold the Moorabbin Airport events held over from lock-down, these being tours of the Air Museum led by club member David Alsop, lunch at the Aero Club and flights around Melbourne in Tony Wood’s plane.
Coming up for July is a technical session dedicated to the Rolls-Royce Cloud and Bentley S series cars, a
presentation f rom Zagame Rolls-Royce and Bentley Melbourne franchise at our general meeting and a visit to the Fox Classic Car Museum. Please note that this month we have a Special General Meeting to discuss and vote on the establishment of a Finance Review Committee. The SGM will be held at 7.00 pm prior to the general meeting on July 14th
Back by popular demand is Drive and Be Driven scheduled for Sunday August 7. This will be open for all club members to bring along marque cars (Rolls- Royce and Bentley) for the enjoyment and pleasure of members and their guests. A special invitation is extended for members with pre-war and early post-war cars to bring these along on the day. A light barbeque lunch will be provided at Lionel Gel School of Instruction. Further details are included in the newsletter.
Finally, I would like to say a special thanks to Robert Craig who is doing a terrific job at the general meetings seamlessly arranging catering for the suppers that we all enjoy. I am sure I speak on behalf of all the membership passing along our appreciation – thank you Robert!
