President’s Report - March 2024

As we reflect on the events of February, it brings me immense pleasure to recount the array of enjoyable gatherings and activities that have enriched our club. February began with our technical workshop, led by Noel Baker and Neil Matthews and provided invaluable insights into the maintenance and care of our cherished vehicles. This was followed by a convivial evening at our club’s headquarters, where members gathered to share an enjoyable and informative evening with Rodney Smart from Scotchman’s Hill Winery. More than a few of us were impressed with the quality of the wines, especially their Cornelius Chardonnay!

Closing out the month was a splendid ‘pop-up’ car rally through the gentle rolling countryside over the Dandenong Ranges to the Holden Museum at Trafalgar and from there onto Glengarry for a lovely pub lunch. The magnificent presence of our Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles captured the admiration of onlookers along the route.

Looking ahead to March, I am filled with anticipation for another month brimming with exciting events. Once again, our technical section has planned an interesting topic – the SU carburettor. I am sure after Sunday 3rd we will all be enlightened as to how this mysterious device, if treated with the respect it deserves, will ensure the smooth and reliable running of our engines.

Our general meeting this month will be held at the Healey Factory in Mitcham commencing at 6.30 pm on Thursday 14. This promises to be a very interesting evening and further details will be provided by email shortly.

A really special Sunday run is planned for Sunday 17. We have a combined run with the Cadillac Club to Maryknoll for a picnic lunch replete with a scenic drive commencing at Bill Allsep House. At the Maryknoll Reserve, after lunch, we will be treated to a “Tour of the Cars” led by a member of the Cadillac Club and reciprocated for their members by a tour of our club cars.

As the days grow shorter and the promise of Autumn with its balmy gentle days, let us continue to uphold the spirit of fellowship and enthusiasm that defines our club. Together, let us make March a month to remember.
