President’s Report - November 2024

Greetings all,

To quote the words of Andy Williams “It’s the wonderful time of the year” and I’m not specifically referring to Christmas. To me this is a really exciting time in the life or our club and below are just a few reasons that I’m excited:

  • Our November meeting features arguably one of the most famous cars that the Rolls-Royce stable has ever produced – the Silver Ghost – please come along to hear all about this vehicle that probably did more in cementing the Rolls-Royce name with design and engineering quality that maybe any other. This and more are some of the joys you can experience at our monthly meetings.

  • The highlight of our club calendar is the Club Concours and Display Day. It is the time that every Rolls-Royce and Bentley owner has no excuse to bring out their pride and joy and put it on display at our own premier event. Set in the fabulous grounds of Cruden Farm there is no better place to bring out your car, put together a picnic and enjoy the company of your club colleagues. Naturally we have our concours cars being judged by Chief Judge Neil Matthews and his team and again I would encourage you to all to consider entering your car.

  • Many amongst us have learnt that entering a car in concours is an exceptional way to learn about your car and take the little steps to continually improve it. If you do not feel like doing the BYO picnic, then the Langwarrin Men’s Shed will be tantalising your tastebuds with a sausage sizzle. But quite seriously this event is the greatest opportunity for the public to get to know the Rolls-Royce and Bentley marques and meet us as club members and owners – the person you chat to about your car may also be our next new members.

  • Our club has been given an amazing opportunity to display at the inaugural Motors and Masterpieces Show at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds running from Friday 22nd November through to Sunday 24th November inclusive. We will showcase the Rolls-Royce and Bentley Marques in all their engineering and design brilliance by displaying a timeline representing the history and progression of cars across the eras. We have tapped many members on the shoulders, thank you to those who will display. We see this as a great opportunity to attract the public to our marques and demonstrate the benefits of our club. Our display is in a prime position inside the carpeted Victoria Pavilion, the main entrance to the show and will be seen by everyone entering the venue. More detailed information on Motors and Masterpieces can be found at www.motorsandmasterpieces.com and I would encourage all of you to attend and visit this great show.

  • The other highlight of the year is our Christmas Party and Club & Concours Awards Presentation event, this year we journey to the home of Bill and Kendra Templer “Four Winds” in Main Ridge for our annual celebrations. This is a true privilege and quite an amazing property set overlooking Philip Bay – on a clear day you can even see the You Yangs. Bookings are now open, and you will enjoy a good selection of meats and salads as well as deserts. It is BYO tables, chairs, nibbles and drinks and given the time of the year please consider bringing some. shade together with appropriate weights to secure any shade structures.

These are only a few of the events on for the last few months of the year so please check out the club calendar and mark in all our events – especially the Ladies Luncheon!

As a parting word, some of you know I am spending some time in Adelaide as part of my professional employment. Today in South Australia was the famous Bay to Birdwood run. Cath (who has joined me for this weekend thanks to a Virgin Airlines sale) and I, were chauffeured up to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood in a friend’s Daimler Majestic Major V8 that has previously been the vehicle that has previously played host to royalty – quite a privilege indeed. There were over 1500 vehicles entered and it was really refreshing to see the amount of diversity in display vehicles as well as the numbers of families and young people participating.

Drive safe and stay well,

Kindly,

Keith Mortimer
