Technical Section (LGSI). Bring your other car day.

Bring your other car day

Most of us have other cars or car projects. Sunday 6th August at L.G.S.I. is the day to bring your other car tell us your stories ask questions examine on the hoist, your Rolls or Bentley is still welcome with the BBQ to follow.

The first car I owned was a 1936 Chevrolet 2 door Master it had independent front suspension called knee action. I bought it not going and in need of a lot of body work, I had saved up 5 Pounds this was not enough so I offered my bike as well and the deal was done. Dad was not pleased with me handing over my bike as part payment ,however he helped me get it home and at the age of 8 years I worked on that car every night after school till I got it going. As kids we had a lot of fun driving that car, the roads near home were deserted most of the time.

Having a feel for anything mechanical I spent a lot of time at the local Austin Morris dealers in Kilmore and after the Chevrolet I was keen to study and appreciate better Automotive Engineering and so began a career in service and repair of British and European cars . Local Mechanics did not understand or want to learn about the sometimes difficult and complex engineering of these cars so I had a niche market which still exists today. Of course as a young enthusiast Rolls-Royce was the pinnacle aim to own and work on. This happened in 1971 with the purchase of a 20 hp chassis in shares with my brother John, it was a trailer load of pieces and at that stage of life we were both heavily involved in establishing business and home life and it was sold still not completed. Later in 1980 I was able to purchase an imported Silver Shadow cheaply The motor failed not long after purchase much to my dismay. I rebuilt the motor and it ended up a great car.

Motoring on together.
