Editor’s Report - September 2026
It has been another busy period for the Victoria Branch, with our recent events once again demonstrating the strength of our Club and the enjoyment that comes from getting our cars out, catching up with old friends and welcoming new faces.
Our recent Gippsland Weekend was a great example. Despite the weather, a hardy group of members enjoyed a wonderful weekend of motoring, interesting collections, good country hospitality and, most importantly, great company. These regional events continue to be extremely popular and remind us that some of our best Club experiences happen when we venture a little further afield.
Sadly, the past month has also brought the passing of two long-standing members of our Club, Gary Ayre and John Link.
Both Gary and John were stalwarts of the RROCA and will be greatly missed by those who knew them. Members such as these become part of the fabric and history of our Club, contributing not only through their enthusiasm for Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars, but through the friendships, knowledge and memories they leave behind. On behalf of the Victoria Branch, we extend our sincere condolences to their families and friends.
As we look ahead, our Annual General Meeting is fast approaching, and this is an important time for the future of our Branch.
Like most clubs, we rely entirely on members being prepared to contribute their time and enthusiasm. Too often, however, it is the same relatively small group of people who organise events, serve on the Committee and do much of the work behind the scenes.
With around 300 members in the Victoria Branch, we have an enormous pool of experience, ideas and talent. You don’t need to be an expert on the cars, and you certainly don’t need to have previously served on a committee. What we need are people prepared to become involved.
I would particularly encourage members to consider standing for a position in the future, helping organise an event, suggesting a new activity, or simply putting their hand up when assistance is needed. Even a small contribution can make a considerable difference.
A successful Club doesn’t happen by itself. The wonderful events, newsletters, meetings, technical activities and social occasions we enjoy are only possible because members volunteer their time to make them happen.
As we approach the AGM, perhaps this is the year to ask yourself: “What can I do to help?”
The Victoria Branch has a proud history and a strong membership. With a few more people willing to step forward, we can ensure that it remains active, enjoyable and successful for many years to come.
