President’s Report - April 2024
March marks the transition from the scorching heat of summer to the milder days of autumn. As the days gradually become shorter, the temperatures begin to cool. It’s a time when nature undergoes a subtle transformation, with trees shedding their leaves in preparation for the cooler months ahead, and the landscape adopts hues of amber and gold. In this context we enjoyed some great events during March. Starting off with a deep dive into the mysteries of the SU Carburettor at a well-attended technical section Sunday.
We followed this up with the highlight of our March general meeting at the Healey Factory. Very well attended by 46 club members and guests, we were treated to a guided tour of the Healey Factory facilities by four of their superbly talented craftsmen. The time seemed to pass by very quickly as members were captivated by the fascinating skills and talents of the teams who described the intricate details of car restoration which they seem to be doing very well. Supper was enjoyed surrounded by some marvellous cars in the showroom as we lingered long into the evening.
Lastly, our lovely Sunday run to Maryknoll jointly with the Cadillac Club was well attended by 15 marque cars and 15 Cadillacs. The highlight of the day was the ‘tour of the cars’ conducted by members of each of the clubs as they described the history of and features of each of their cars.
April unfolds as a bridge between the fading warmth of autumn and the impending chill of winter and showcases the vibrant hues of autumn foliage, painting landscapes with shades of red, orange, and gold. April is going to showcase some more great events for our club. Our technical section will be addressing the mechanical care that needs to be done to prepare our cars for the long run to Noosa and back for the upcoming Federal Rally.
Our monthly meeting will be one out of the box! We have as our guest speaker, one of the technical experts from Penrite Oil Company, who will be discussing the technology of lubricants. As we all know, Penrite is an Australian Oil Company and is a lubrication specialist who supplies many of the products we use regularly in our cars. At the same meeting we will be celebrating the 120th anniversary of the first meeting between Henry Royce and Charles Rolls.
Finally, we cap the month off with a visit to Lane 88, which is the Penrite Oil Company Museum collection of cars. This will be a fascinating visit as there are some spectacular and historic cars in this collection. I hope to see as many of you as possible at each of these April events!
