President’s Report - February 2023
One of the events that I enjoy most of all is our January general meeting at Iron Bark Station. This year was no exception with a wonderful turn out of club cars, club members, families, guests and a number of prospective new members.
Starting the year I can report that our club is in a very good place with a high level of interest and a number of inquiries from prospective new members, a healthy balance sheet and may I say, happy members! 2023 is promising to be a great year for our club. The committee met in January to start laying out plans for a year full of enjoyable events, interesting meetings and a few surprises along the way.
After an interesting year getting back on our feet after all those extended lockdowns, we completed 2022 with a night of fun at our December meeting auction and a superb luncheon at the Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club.
Our annual club awards were announced at the Yacht Club and congratulations are extended to each and everyone of these very worthy recipients:
Helen Reis – Partner of the Year
David Ord – Bill and Jean Memorial Award
Stephen Peoples – Club Member of the Year
Brian Williams – Distinguished Service Award
Gerry Howell – Distinguished Service Award
John Reis – Ian Dodd Award
Coming up, February has some terrific events: an interesting technical section looking into Spirits, Shadows and Bentley Turbos, Ladies and Partner’s night with Naomi Gruzevskis as our speaker, joining with the 20-Ghost club on their Gippsland run and the ever-popular AOMC British and European Motor Show.
Finally another one of those RR stories – did you know that at the factory two imitation wooden heels are used to test the durability of the Wilton carpets. The heels rub backwards and forwards 100,000 times over a 4” strip of carpet which must survive with no signs of wear! Next month we will learn about the function of ‘Squirming Irma’.
