Acting President’s Report - October 2025

While the cat is away, the mice are hardly at play! Far from it, as this is the car club that does not sleep! Thank you to those Members who turned out in impressive numbers to celebrate the legendary Walter Owen Bentley and his magnificent “sports cars”! at the September General Meeting. We were treated, indeed humbled, to have in our Clubhouse, a 1928 WO Bentley courtesy of Gary McMillan. Resplendent in British Racing Green, what a motor car, and what a presentation evocatively delivered by Gary and Wayne Fitzgerald on the Bentley legend.

Fast forward to today we were dazzled by the arrival that same evening by a 2025 MY26 Bentley Continental GT, in extreme Silver with mandarin brake callipers. Nuzzled in behind the venerable WO, Frank Szadovsky, Sales Manager, Bentley of Melbourne, presented not only the amazing engineering capabilities of the latest GT, but brought us up-to-date with decisions taken at Crewe to position this extraordinary marque into the 21st century. In reassuring news, the appointment of a new CEO, fresh out of Porsche, is a believer in heritage, performance and sport. We were grateful for the time that Frank gave to our Club and for his very convivial presentation.

Looking forward, your Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 9 October at BAH. All positions are contestable and we welcome your consideration to join the Committee.

On that note, we bid a reluctant farewell to Wayne Spittle as Editor of your Newsletter. I’ve served on way too many committees to recall, but in all that time, I’ve yet to serve alongside a man of such considerable talent, commitment, generous with his valuable time, as Wayne Spittle. To Wayne, and to Lorraine, I offer my thanks for providing all of us with a first rate monthly newsletter. Any aspiring editor will benefit from a template designed by Wayne with the on-going support of Geelong Printworks.
