President’s Report - November 2022
This month we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 20 HP model. At our monthly general meeting on Thursday 6th (the actual day 100 years ago that the 20 HP model was announced by the Rolls- Royce Company) we held a 100th celebration event. Gathered around two marvellous 20 HP models in our club car park, GUJ62 and GOK69, we enjoyed BBQ finger food courtesy of our new member Yu Yang and later enjoyed an informative presentation by Ian Berg giving a short history of the 20 HP and in particular the Australian experience with this lovely model.
The 20 HP shares it’s 100th birthday with that of the BBC, the Lincoln Memorial, Wimbledon Centre Court, Time magazine and the Reader’s Digest. Sunday 16th saw an enjoyable run to Steel’s Creek Winery for a relaxed lunch and wine tasting and a number of our members joined the 20-Ghost Club annual rally to Mount Gambier rounding out a full month of activities. Coming up for the month of November, and not to be missed, will be the Technical Section year end celebration on Sunday 6th to which members are invited to bring along an interesting non-marque car and our General Meeting this month will be an enjoyable evening with Len King recounting his lifelong experiences servicing Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars and his role as an international Test Cricket Umpire.
For those of us who would like to take the opportunity to get our PMCs out for some exercise, we have two lovely runs planned for November – a midweek run on Wednesday 26th and a Sunday run on November 20th to McClelland Sculpture Park.
I am pleased to advise that our committee vacancy has been filled by Terry Harris. I am sure you will join with me in welcoming Terry and look forward to his contributions towards the successful running of the club. One thing that you probably didn’t know about the 20 HP is that the model heralded the concept of the automatic transmission as one very happy owner wrote from his home in France after taking delivery of his car ‘I drove my 20 HP home from Liverpool and I am very satisfied with the running of the engine, not having to change gear between Liverpool and Versailles’.
Happy Motoring.
