President’s Report - September 2023
September marks the gradual transition from winter to spring, bringing a sense of renewal and awakening to the natural world. As the days gradually lengthen and temperatures begin to rise, there’s a palpable anticipation in the air. Blossoms burst forth on previously bare trees, painting the landscape with delicate hues of pink and white. It’s a time of rejuvenation, outdoor activities, and the celebration of the impending warmer months ahead and anticipation of the many wonderful events our club has in store for the rest of the year.
Coming up we have our AGM on September 14 and the ever-popular Drive and Be Driven on September 17. Please come along and we are encouraging all members to invite family and friends to participate in this wonderful event. October sees a number of highlights including a joint RROCA/BDC driving day at the iconic Lang Lang Proving Grounds as well as a beautifully curated two day run to Portarlington in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Derby Bentley.
Our annual Club Concours is hosted by Cruden Farm this year in November sharing the day with the Aston Martin Club Concours. It will be an open day to the general public and we anticipate this to be a spectacular event. I would like to encourage all members to consider entering their cars for judging at this year’s Concours. We have in our club many excellent cars that would be great contenders in the Concours and from personal experience participation in the preparation and entry into the competition is highly rewarding. You learn so much about your car and the collaboration and the comradery with fellow participants builds wonderful lasting friendships.
Looking back over the past month we enjoyed a really interesting Technical Section event where members were encouraged to bring along an interesting other car from their garages and at the General Meeting, new member Duncan Cambell-Write enthralled us with his enthusiasm for all things Volvo. Sunday 20th saw an elegant procession of PMCs grace the meandering roads of the Dandenong Ranges for a visit to the Botanic Gardens and on to a wonderful lunch at the Pine Grove Hotel.
Happy motoring!
