As some of you may know, my Bentley S1 is currently undergoing restoration including a back to bare metal repaint. The body shop is doing a terrific job and I am keenly awaiting to see the final result.

This month we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 20 HP model. At our monthly general meeting on Thursday 6th (the actual day 100 years ago that the 20 HP model was announced by the Rolls- Royce Company) we held a 100th celebration event.

The sun shone brightly in a lovely blue sky with just a few puffy white clouds, a perfect Melbourne Spring day. Yes, this was Monday September 19, the day after our Concours Display Day at Xavier College.

September brings us to our AGM and I am pleased to report that the Victorian Branch of the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club of Australia reaches this annual milestone as a vibrant organisation. Club membership has continued to grow over the past 12 months adding 8 new members, bringing our total membership to 285.

I am sure by now that you will have noted the August club newsletter is in an abbreviated broadsheet format. We have signalled this change for some time now and as of this month we have implemented the transition to bi-monthly newsletters.

I do love all those wonderful stories about Rolls- Royce. Did you know the reason that so many Rolls- Royce doctor’s coupes were popular in the early days is that a Rolls-Royce was considered to be the only car that a doctor could arrive at and depart from a patient’s house without the possibility of disturbing the patient!
